Andaman: IRBn apprehends 18 Burmese poachers

Port Blair, Mar 20: An anti-poaching team of Indian Reserve Battalions (IRBn) has apprehended 18 Burmese poachers along with two engine dinghies from Kalighat, a remote North Andaman Island, police said today.

"These poachers were apprehended from Budha Gophe Jungle of Kalighat Island, after tiring combing operation last night," K C Divedi Commandant of IRBn in Andaman and Nicobar Islands toldsources today.

Meanwhile, another team of IRBn has apprehended two more Burmese poachers along with two engine dinghies from Wilson Island of South Andaman.

The IRBn Commandant added that the anti-poaching operation is still on in various islands of Andaman group.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands located closer to Burma and Thailand, are often raided by poachers from Burma, who come here for poaching valuable fishes and sea cucumbers from Andaman Sea.
