All party meeting demanded
Puducherry, Mar 20 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the CPI(M) today urged the administration to convene an all party meeting to discuss the port development porject here.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Perumal said there was apprehension among the people that they would be affected and it was the responsibility of the government to clear their doubts.
He said the party was not against port development,but it should be done without affecting the poor people.
He said the Madras High Court had given direction to secure the cleareance from the Centre and to hold a public hearing at Thengaithittu, adding that the government should come forward to implement the court directions.
Until then construction works should not be taken up. CPM Tamil Nadu state council member T Murugan who was present, charged that several political party leaders had accepted bribes from a private firm and an enquiry must be conducted.
Stating that the setting up of satallite towns here was inevitable, Mr Perumal said it should be ensured that none of the settlements were destablised while setting up the towns.
On the Special Economic Zone, he said the government should not set them up on fertile lands.
