AIDS cases rise to 10,000 in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Mar 20 (UNI) The number of AIDS cases in the state has crossed the limit of 10,000, according to a release by the state health department.

The release said Ahmedabad has registered 2,000 cases, Surat 1,600, Jamnagar 700 and Rajkot 600.

Even Dang and Narmada--the smallest districts in Gujarat--recorded 16 and 10 cases respectively, while Gandhinagar district recorded 100 AIDS patients, it said.

Five years ago, the number of AIDS-related cases in Gujarat was just 2,500. Owing to growing industrialisation and migration of people from other states, the number of the lethal disease has risen, it added.
