Moscow, Mar 20: At least 63 people were killed and 33 others injured in a devastating fire in a home for elderly people at Kamyshevatskaya village in Russia's Krasnodar region, Itar-Tass news agency reported today.

The first fire alarm call came at 0112 hrs local time last night.

Since the home for elderly is situated over 50 km away from the nearest fire station, the firefighters arrived hours late at the site.

The Police and local investigators were looking into the cause of the accident, Krasnodar region prosecutor office told the agency.

The fire had been put out, but no reason had so far been given about the cause of fire.

Russia's Krasnodar region prosecutor Leonid Korzhinek, with a group of investigators, arrived at the scene of the fire, the agency said.
