5,000 JMB cadres active in Bangladesh : JMB militant
Dhaka, Mar 20 (UNI) A commander of the banned Jama'atul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB), responsible for serial bombings in the country two year ago, today claimed that about 5,000 JMB cadres are active in Bangladesh.
An accused in the explosion of serial bombing on August 17, 2005, Mostafizur Rahman Shahin was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) last week from his Pabna house, the was taken to five-day police remand for interrogation.
According to police sources, during interrogation, he said that the JMB cadres are paid monthly remuneration.
''Shahin added they receive money from foreign countries including US and Saudi Arabia sent by some Bangladeshi expatriates,'' the police sources added.
He was produced before the court of Magistrate Abdullah Harun in Pabna today. The court granted a five-day fresh remand.
Later, he was sent to Dhaka for interrogation under the Task Force of Intelligence (TIF).
JMB has been launching secret campaign to establish Islamic rule in Bangladesh. Most of their top-ranking leaders were arrested and facing death sentence for the serial bombings on August 17, 2005.
About 50 people including judicial officers, lawyers and police were killed and hundreds injured during their violent campaign in 2005.
The police had earlier declared Tk 25,000 bounty for habbing him.
