11 debt-ridden farmers commit suicide in 2 days in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Mar 20 (UNI) As many as 11 debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in the last two days in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, a voluntary organisation here said.
The 11 farmers, who took the extreme step included five from Yavatmal district, two each from Buldhana and Washim districts and one each from Wardha and Bhandara district, Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region said in a release.
With this, the number of farmers who have ended their lives in 2007 has touched 219. These included 61 in March, 88 in February and 70 in January this year, the release added.
