'Vanamithra' awards announced
Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 19 (UNI) P T Chacko Memorial High School, Kunduthode in Kozhikode district (School level) and College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (College level) have been selected for this years 'Vanamithra' awards.
The award, carrying Rs one lakh each, a citation and a plaque, would be presented to the winning institutions here on March 21, on the day World Forest Day, by Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, a release said here today.
The award is being given to the school or a college, which had peformed well in the sectors of forestation, protection of forests, tree, environment and its cleaning at a minimum of five years.
The government had received 33 entries at school level and ten at college level.
A five-member-committee with Forest Secretary as its Chairman and Principal Chief Forest Conservator, Additional Principal Chief Forest Conservator (social forestry), Director KFRI and poet B Sugathamkumari as members selected the winners, the release added.
