Three labourers killed by Aleppi Express
Ranchi, Mar 19 (UNI) Three labourers working on railway tracks were run over and killed by an express train near Namkum railway station off the state capital here today.
Government Railway Police (GRP) said the labourers were working at the outer signal of the station when the Dhanbad-bound Aleppi Express from Chennai ran over killing the trio on the spot.
The deceased were from Purulia district of West Bengal and identified as Dhubba Lal Mahto (35), Banshi Mahto (25) and Rajaram Mahto (30).
Prior to the accident, another train from Ranchi was going to Dhanbad and this lead to a confusion among the laboureres as to which trains were on which tracks, railway sources said.
Police did not rule the negligence of the private contractor from Bokaro who engaged them in the job.
Police said the bodies would be sent to the relatives after the postmortem.
Meanwhile, a senior railway official there was no policy to give compensation to the people killed since they were not railway employees.
