Tension prevails in University Campus following clash

Coimbatore, Mar 16 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Karunya Deemed University Campus here today following a clash between two groups of students.

University sources said when the engineering college opened in the morning the two groups belonging to second and third year entered into a fight.

Police, however, brought the situation under control. Seven third-year students were taken into custody and subsequently released from the police station.

A couple of students received minor injuries during the clash and were treated at a near-by hospital.

The clash followed an incident in which a second-year student was attacked by some third year students near a bus stand a few days back.

The University authorities closed the college till further notice and asked the third-year students to vacate the hostels.

The authorities also ordered an enquiry. Some students were likely to be suspended after the enquiry.
