Rodrigues launches cyber security research centre

Chandigarh, Mar 19 (UNI) A cyber security research centre, the first of its kind in the Country, was launched by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues here today.

Set up by the Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with NASSCOM and Punjab Engineering College, this Centre will contribute in managing cyber security risks, speeding up research, maintaining high standards of quality, confidentiality and reliability of IT companies.

The centre is another milestone in the rapid advancement of Information Technology sector in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Addressing a gathering of leading IT professionals, industrialists, civil, police and defence services officers on the occasion, General Rodrigues called for a collective and concerted effort to expand research and infrastructural development programmes in IT Sector.

He emphasized the need for evolving innovative and effective technologies to improve delivery systems through entrepreneurship orientation and skill training programmes.

Describing the creation of Cyber Security Centre as a major event, General Rodrigues said that this project will immensely contribute to the development and growth of the Entrepreneur Development Center being set up in IT Park for providing state-of-the-art facility for various IT related research programmes, software development and training courses.

The focus of whole exercise needs synergy and integration of different services to achieve set goals as no system can successfully work in isolation, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, NASSCOM President Kiran Karnik said that this cyber research center is of tremendous significance to handle personal, confidential and sensitive data and in creating a sense of comfort and security among the IT companies.

He said that this center will be used as a base for carrying out IT related research in the Country.

Mr S K Sandhu, Finance-cum- IT Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, said that setting up of the cyber research centre marks the beginning of the new era and will act as a platform for development of various cyber security programmes.
