Railways to grant ticket concession to UPSC candidates

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) In tune with the budget announcement, the Railway Ministry today decided to grant 50 per cent concession in second class train tickets to students appearing in main written examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Central Staff Selection Commission (CSSC) with effect from April 1.

The concession to students was announced by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in his budget speech for 2007-08 in Parliament.

The students of educational institutions recognised by the Education Ministry, Government of India or the Education Department of the concerned state Government and colleges affiliated to recognised universities will be eligible for this concession.

The Head Master/Head Mistress/Principal can issue a student's concession certificate for travel from the station serving the school/college to the station serving the place of main written examination and return.

The applicant will have to mention on the certificate that the concerned student is undertaking journey for appearing in main written examination conducted by Central Staff Selection Commission or Union Public Service Commission or is returning after appearing in main written examinations.

The confessional tickets will be issued directly by Station Manager of the concerned station on production of such a certificate, along with the photocopy of admit card for the examination.

The concession will be granted in Second Class only and not in sleeper class. As per the rules, concession will be admissible in basic Mail/Express fares only and all other charges, like reservation fee and superfast surcharge, will be realised.
