Railway line to be constructed in Manipur
Imphal, Mar 19 (UNI) Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today informed the House that the Railway Minister has been requested to carry out a feasibility study of alternative alignments to construct a rail line in Manipur.
The Jiribam Tupul railway line was sanctioned in 2004-05 and the 52-km survey work was completed and a detailed estimate for 26 kms was submitted to the Railway Board. The proposal for land acquisition for 20 kms has also been submitted, the chief minister said.
The Tipaimukh multipurpose project to be taken up at Churachandpur district will affect the rail line. However, modifications were done so that the rail line will not be affected the chief minister said.
Replying to a call attention, Mr Ibobi Singh said that Rs 2 lakh would be given to the 16 security personnel who were killed in ambush on February 24 in Churachandpur district.
