Nandigram, Mar 19 (UNI) Despite claims by the Bhumi Uchchhed Protirodh Committee that a number of people had gone missing after the March 14 firing, no missing diary has yet been filed in Nandigram, police today said.

'' We believe that no one was missing after the incident and as such no such diary has been recorded with us. However, some of them may had fled,'' East Midnapore distict SP Anil Srinivas said.

However, Bhumi Uchchhed Protirodh Committee leader and MLA and Convener of Committee Subhendu Adhikari reacted sharply to the police's claim.

'' These five days we have been busy with the treatment of the injured in Janka, Tamluk, Nadigram and SSKM hospital. We have to supply medicine and food, and organise relief for the victims' families. We have to arrange for the transport of higher secondary examinees which started this morning in two centres here today,'' Mr Adhikary said, adding, ''We also had to open two centres of assistance for about 500 examinees here. These things are of utmost importance now. We will file the written diaries after collecting details about the missing persons in due course.'' He, however, admitted that some people, who had fled the area are now returning. But still, there are 50 missing after the incident.

Police said the situation is returning to normal and no incident of firing or bombing was reported in and around Nandigram since last night.
