No discontent in Cong over candidates' list for MCD polls: Sharma

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Denying reports of discontent in party ranks over selection of candidates for the MCD polls, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Rambabu Sharma today said ''complete transparency'' had been observed in the candidate selection process for the April 5 elections.

''Candidates given party tickets are able, capable and amicable,''Mr Sharma said at a press meet to introduce to the media the 272 prospective Congress candidates for the polls.

Asserting that the candidates were selected unanimously with complete transparency, the DPCC chief said,''keeping intact the party ideology of not doing any caste-region politics, the Congress has maintained a balance and given adequate representation to all the castes, regions and religions.'' Asked about the party dropping over 40 sitting Councillors, Mr Sharma said,''most of them were dropped because their seats were earmarked under the reserved category in the new system of delimitation. Of the rest, some were dropped because there were cases pending against them.'' He, however, denied reports of any disgruntlement among party workers on this accord.

''Most of the sitting Councillors who were dropped have assured their full support to the party's candidates,''he said.

In this context, he claimed that only two party workers had filed a nomination as independents.

''However, the party is in talks with them and we are confident of bringing them around and convincing them to withdraw their candidature,''the DPCC chief said.

He said the workers who could not make it to the list would be involved in party activities.
