Modi to dedicate largest pumping station on Narmada to nation

Gandhinagar, Mar 19 (UNI) The largest pumping station, built at a canal of Sardar Sarovar Narmada project near Dhanki village of Surendranagar district, will be dedicated to the nation by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow.

The longest canal of Sardar Sarovar project is 104.66 km, which ends at Dholidhaja Dam. The carrying capacity of the canal is 424 cumax, which will cover the area of 5.24 lakh hector. There are 10 pumps of 20 cumax capacity and six pumps of five cumax capacity installed at the station which will be able to lift 230 cusec of water, an official release here said.

Under the project, there will be five pumping sub-stations installed at Dhanki, Lakhtar, Bala, Rajpur and Dhudhrej on the sub-canal of Saurashtra.

Three artificial water falls have been built at Rangporda, Khawad and Haripur, generating 30 megawatt of electricity.

This station will provide irrigation to 5,24,613 hector land of 597 villages of Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar and Rajkot districts.

Gujarat Urban Development Minister I K Jadeja, Social Welfare Minister Ramanlal Vora and Narmada Nigam president P K Lehri will be present at the function.
