Mar Joseph ordained as Metropolitan

Changanacherry, Mar 19 (UNI) Mar Joseph Perumthottam has been ordained as Metropolitan of the Changanacherry Archdiocese at a solemn ceremony held here today.

Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil was the main celebrant and retiring Archbishop Mar Joseph Powathil and Mar George Valiyamattom the co-celebrants at the Liturgical celebration. Apostolic Nuncio in India Dr Pedro Lopez Quintana delivered the discourse.

A galaxy of Bishops and other prominent persons participated in the historic event of enthroning a new Archbishop by the retiring Archbishop for the first time in the history of the diocese established in 1887.

Mar Joseph Perumthottam was ordained as Archbishop following the retirement of Archbishop Mar Joseph Powathil after a leadership of nearly three decades.
