Lankan refugee drowns

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Mar 19 (UNI) A Lankan Tamil refugee drowned in the Bay of Bengal off Rameswaram while another managed to reach the shore on Saturday night.

Police said Sudhakar and Bhaskar of Jaffna were on their way to Rameswaram in a boat. However, mid sea they allegedly saw a Sri Lankan Naval vessel on patrol and both jumped into the waters fearing they could be shot dead.

While Sudhakar managed to reach Rameswaram coast early today, the body of Bhaskar was washed ashore.

Police recovered the body. Further investigations were underway.
