Govt admits Oxytocin injection being misused in pumpkins

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Government today admitted in the Lok Sabha that it is aware of the fact that Oxytocin injection was being misused to double in a single day the weight of the vegetables covered under the pumpkin category.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Agriculture Kanti Lal Bhuria said as per research report no effect of Oxytocin on fruits size in bottle gourd (pumpkin category) has been observed. However, it is not a documented technique.

He said no authentic information of the effect of injection of Oxytocin on human health is available and documented.
