New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) D K Garg, counsel for Vishwanath Chaturvedi on whose PIL CBI inquiry was ordered by the Supreme Court against UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members in dispropotionate assets case, has demanded that the anonymous letter received by Justice A R Lakshmanan on March 16 be placed on the judicial file of the case.

Mr Garg has written to the registrar (judicial), Supreme Court of India on March 19, demanding the copy of the letter for initiating appropriate legal proceedings in the case.

The petitioner counsel has alleged that the letter was available with some TV channels as well as newspaper correspondents.

Justice A R Lakshmanan had broken down in the open court and had withdrawn from the case. The letter had reportedly cast serious aspersions on the integrity of the judge who had ordered preliminary CBI inquiry against Mulayam Singh, his MP son Akhilesh Yadav, his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav and his younger son Prateek Yadav, on March 1.

The matter is to come up for hearing on March 23 before another bench with Justice Altamas Kabir as the member. Mr Garg has alleged that with little effort source and origin of the said letter can be traced as mischievous letter maligning judiciary are highly damaging to the supremacy of rule of law.

Mulayam Singh is facing allegations of acquiring assets worth over Rs 100 crore through corrupt means by misusing his official status as state Chief Minister.
