Bangladesh Rifles recovers 26 landmines near Myanmar border
Dhaka, Mar 19 (UNI) Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) today recovered 26 landmines in the country's southeastern district of Bandarban bordering Myanmar.
A BDR official said the mines were planted at Walling Dholapahar, within 300 yards of No Man's Land in Naikhongchhari sub district.
The rains removed the mud and several mines were seen by woodcutters who later informed the local BDR camp, the official added.
Major Monir Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Commander of BDR 40 Battalion, led the operation and recovered all the mines. None was arrested in this connection, he informed.
The BDR thinks that anti-government elements of Myanmar perhaps planted the mines to resist the Myanmar border forces 'Nasaka' as the rebels have movement over there, he said.
Recently, many Bangladeshi woodcutters and wild elephants lost their lives in the mine explosions in the area.
