Bhopal, Mar 18 (UNI) The alleged assault on a dalit's wedding procession a week back in Chhatarpur district headquarters by a police superintendent and station house officer (SHO) seems to be snowballing into an issue.

Bridegroom Sohanlal Basor and his wife Babli are camping here in support of a demand for registration of a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Superintendent Chanchal Shekhar and SHO Arun Dubey. After submitting a memorandum to Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar, the couple met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at his residence yesterday.

''The assault was sans provocation and the Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry. I staged a roughly four-hour-long sit-in here at Tin Shed locality yesterday. BJS state unit President Raghunandan Sharma and a few SP leaders met me,'' Mr Basor, a resident of Chhatarpur's Gudrakha village, said today.
