Shillong, Mar 18 (UNI) Educationist and the first woman MP rpt MP from the North East region, Bonily Khongmen passed away here yesterday. She was 92.

Elected to Parliament in the country's first General Elections in 1952, Ms Khongmen had also served as Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly from 1946 to 1951.

She was also unanimously elected twice as a member of the Gauhati University and served in important committees and selected committees of the Assembly.

In 1953, she attended the 10th session of the United Nations as delegate and worked in the Committee of Human Rights.

In 1957, after the dissolution of Parliament, she was elected Member and Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission for a term of six years.

She was appointed member of the Union Public Service Commission in 1963 and served till 1970.

She was also the Chairman of the first Nagaland Public Service Commission from 1970 to 1974 and appointed Chairman of the first Pay Commission in Nagaland in 1975.

Apart from her service career, she was an social worker and member of Young Women's Christian Association, Chairman of the Eastern Indian Women's Association, Chairman of Meghalaya chapter of the Indian Council of Child Welfare.

She will be laid to rest in the All Saints' Church cemetery, near the official residence of General Officer Commanding, 101 Area.
