Demand for gazette notification will confuse people: MK
Chennai, Mar 18 (UNI) Asserting that there was no precedent for the notification of a Tribunal's award in official gazette within 90 days, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today cautioned that any unilateral agitation or demand for gazette notification of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal would only help to create confusion among people.
In an apparent reference to the fast undertaken by AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa demanding immediate gazette notification of the final award, he said Cauvery problem was not a political issue but a problem of the people of Tamil Nadu.
The issue should be approached only through legal means and there was no place for a political approach, he said in a statement here.
He said despite several clarifications by the government, Ms Jayalalithaa and her supporters had been maintianing that the award could be notified in the gazette immediately.
Mr Karunanidhi said though tribunals for Krishna, Narmada and Godavari had given their awards, none of them had been gazetted within 90 days. There was no precedent so far as to a gazette notification within 90 days of the delivery of the award, he added.
