Bomb blast at Tata Motors' Singur plant complex
Kolkata, Mar 18 (UNI) A crude bomb today exploded in the Tata Motors' proposed small car plant area at Singur in Hoogly district while live bombs were defused from the site.
Talking to UNI, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said 'criminals' might have kept some locally made explosive devices near the newly constructed boundary wall of the Tata Motors' proposed plant at Singur last night.
Suddenly one of the crude bombs exploded this morning and a large number of policemen rushed to the spot and recovered some bomb-making explosives and five crude bombs.
Soon members of the Bomb Squad also arrived and defused the live bombs, Mr Kanojia said and added the explosion did not cause any damage.
No one was injured as the area was empty during the time of the explosion, he added.
However, as a precautionary measure the number of state police personnel posted at the site was increased.
This is the first such incident of bomb explosion since the land was handed over to Tata Motors, Mr Kanojia said.
However, it was yet to be known who were behind the blast, he added.
