AP CM launches 'Iron Fortification' programme in Govt schools
Hyderabad, Mar 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today launched 'Iron Fortification' programme in the Government schools to fight against the iron deficiency among the poor students in the State.
As part of the programme, two Britannia Iron (five mg) fortified biscuits would be provided to each child twice a week as a supplement to the State Government's mid-day meal programme.
This programme was jointly organised by Britannia, Naandi Foundation and Globally Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), a Switzerland-based NGO.
The specially developed iron-fortified buscuits, would be distributed to 1.2 lakh children in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Britannia Industries Limited, Vice President Neeraj Chandra said the idea of supplementing the mid-day meal with iron-fortified biscuits will go a long way towards the physical and mental development of children.
