Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 18 (UNI) After the much acclaimed literacy and e-literacy drives, the Kerala Government is all set to promote 'e-krishi' in a big way.

Currently being implemented in Malappuram, the first computer literate district in the country, the ''e-krishi'' project, all set to address the gap existing in agriculture information flow and transaction management would be extended to seven more districts.

Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts would be covered under the scheme by next month.

The project had already established a network of 12,500 farmers and over 100 institutional buyers in Malappuram, project head K Anvar Sadath, head of the e-krishi project, told UNI here.

Besides, the project had a tie-up with leading exporters of the region.

The project envisages setting up of a network of farming communities throughout Kerala, which would have access to information on market demand, prices, good agricultural practices, quality agricultural inputs and expert advices.

The network is supported by a technology-enabled robust transaction platform that facilitates all their offline activities.

The project, through its agri-business centres, enables farmers and other stakeholders to interact with agricultural service providers in the private, government and non-government sectors.

It provides a web-based platform, enabling the farmers and land holders to convert infertile agricultural farms into high yielding farms.

The platform would provide information, communication, transaction, payment and potential integration with related services.

The project would be implemented through the Akshaya Centres, set up as part of the e-literacy campaign.

Once the Akshaya e-literacy campaign is introduced in the remaining six more districts in the state, the 'e-krishi' project would cover the entire state.

The facilities and resources of ''akshaya e-kendras'' are used for the project.
