Protest puts vehicular movement on NH in disarray
Udupi, Mar 17 (UNI) Protest called by the Nagarjuna Vidyut Virodhi Samithi at Nandikur in the district disrupted the vehicular movement on the National Highway 48 from Byndoor to Bykampady today.
Road blocks were put up at several points by placing stones, burning tyres, erecting shamianas. No vehicle was allowed to pass through the National Highway since 0700 hrs.
Superintendent of Police Subramanyeshwar Rao told media that the situation was peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident.
The police were on patrol, clearing road blocks. All vehicles coming from Byndoor to Udupi were being diverted via Kollur, he added.
Protest was called by the Nagarjuna Vidyut Virodhi Samithi against the proposed 1015 mw coal-based thermal power project by Nagarjuna Power Company Limited (NPCL).
