JIPMER Committee seeks Karunanidhi's support
Puducherry, Mar 17(UNI) The JIPMER Anti Conversion Peoples Action Committee would meet DMK President M Karunanidhi in Chennai to seek his party's support to their agitations against the Centre's move to convert JIPMER into an autonomous institution.
Talking to newspesons here today, T Murugan, President of the Committee and CPI(M) Tamil Nadu State Council member said while Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss made efforts to introduce the bill in Parliament during the last session, the Committee along with CPI(M) Parliament members objected and demanded changes.
The Bill, however, was introduced in the present session without making any changes and following objections from BJP, CPI(M) and AIADMK members, the Speaker had referred the bill to the Standing Committee.
Mr Murugan said three members of the Committee met the Standing Committee members and apprised them of the facts prevailing in JIPMER and also pointed out the Indo-French agreement pertaining to JIPMER and urged them not to violate it. The Committee would also seek the support of the CPI for their struggle, he added.
He alleged that there was corruption in the construction of the Super Speciality Block at JIPMER.
