Date for Madurai West Assembly bypoll soon: CEO

Kancheepuram, Mar 17 (UNI) Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta today said the date for the Madurai West by-election will be announced by the Election Commission soon.

Speaking to media after holding a review meeting with officials here this afternoon, Mr Gupta said work on photo electoral rolls was 95 per cent complete and the polling date would be announced soon.

The by-election became necessary due to the death of S V Shanmugam of the AIADMK last year.

The CEO said he was conducting district-wise review on the issue of electoral photo identification cards (EPIC) in the state.

In Kancheepuram, 77 per cent work in this respect was over. Work on photo electoral rolls in Tambaram and Alandur was progressing at 'lightning speed.' Mr Gupta also said photo electoral roll work would be completed in Tamil Nadu before May.
