BJP hopes to win high majority in MLC polls
Hyderabad, Mar 17 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh BJP today expressed confidence that their candidates would win majority of seats from the Graduate constituencies for the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections which concluded here today.
Addressing a press conference here, Party spokesperson N Ramachander Rao said the party gave a good performance in almost all the eight graduate constituencies despite the use of money and 'abuse' of official machinery by the ruling party.
He said the BJP opposed the move of the government to declare the 'Ugadi' holiday on March 19 instead of March 20 which was officially declared a holiday. He said 'the March 19 was inauspicious day as per Hindu belief'. The action of the government had hurt the Hindu sentiment particularly Hindus in the state.
He demanded that the state government should not hold Ugadi Panchanga Sravanam on March 19 and instead should hold on March 20 which BJP had decided already to hold on March 20.
He said the BJP also demanded the removal of Vice-Chancellor Padmavathi Mahali Viswa Vidyala immediately and since her appoinment the missionary activities on the camps had become a regular feature and conversions to the Christanity was on increase.
He alleged that recent suicide of a M Sc student in the campus hostel showed that forcible conversion of the students was taking place right under the active support of the Vice-Chancellor.
