Asst returning officer dead in freak incident

Jhansi, Mar 17 (UNI) In a freak incident, an assistant returning officer died today after being hit by a bullet, when he was cleaning his gun in Lalitpur district of Jhansi division.

According to police, Jameel Khan, 55, was cleaning his licensed gun, when it accidently went off.

He received severe bullet wounds and was rushed to the Jhansi Medical College, where the official was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Lalitpur district magistrate Jai Prakash Tripathi said an ex-gratia of Rs 5,000 had been given to the deceased's kin.
