New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today after members of the ruling Congress stalled proceeding in the house over the issue of the anonymous letter sent to Supreme Court Judge A R Lakshmanan, criticising his tackling of the disproportionate assests case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The House, which had re-assembled at 1430 hrs after a second adjournment over the Nandigram issue, witnessed vociferous protests from the Treasury Benches soon after Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar concluded his statement over the food security issue.

Despite repeated requests by the Chair to defer raising of the issue till the Private Members' bill was taken up, the noisy scenes continued, forcing Deputy Chairperson K Rahman Khan to adjourn the House for ten minutes.

However, when the House re-assembled and after a few bills were introduced, Mr Narain Swamy and Mr Rashid Alvi and other Members of the Congress again tried to disrupt the proceeding.

Amid the din, BJP member Sharad Joshi, who was trying to speak on a bill, was continuously interrupted.

The BJP members then joined the furor, making it impossible for the Chair to continue the proceedings.

Earlier, the House was adjourned twice over the Nandigram issue.
