Pre-feasibility report on Kalpasar proj positive
Gandhinagar, Mar 16: World's biggest man-made drinking water lake 'Kalpsar Project' could be possible according to its pre-feasibility report, Gujarat Water Supply Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma informed the state Legislative Assembly today.
Mr Chudasma said the pre-feasibility report, prepared by the world-renowned experts, have come to conclusion that 'Drinking Water Lake' in the Gulf of Khambhat is possible.
He said the experts have concluded that the development of Kalpsar Sarovar in the Gulf of Khambhat was feasible from the technical and socio-economic points of view.
The Minister was replying to a written question raised during the Question Hours.
He said the study for pre-feasibility report had begun in 1998, comprising a team of experts, and it was conducted at a cost of Rs 2,544 crore. While, the entire project cost is estimated at about Rs 54,000 crore.
In reply to another supplimentary question, Mr Chudasma said the study for 'Feasibility Report' of the project would begin now and it is likely to be completed by 2010.
If the Feasibility Report would be positive, it would be sent to the Center for Environment and Forest for further clearances, he added.
