Five, including 4 nuns, killed in road accident

Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 16 (UNI) Five people including four nuns, were killed on the spot when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Siruganur on the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai National Highway early today.

Police said the accident occurred when the occupants of the car were coming to Tiruchirapalli to attend a condolence meeting while a groundnut-laden lorry was proceeding to Chennai from Manaparai.

The deceased were identified as Amali Shantha (53), Grethal Loha (65), Petronilal (67), Alphonse Fathima (55) and driver Kaliappan (23.

The deceased were from St Immaculate Convent in Puducherry.

The car was completely smashed in the accident.

Traffic on the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai National Highway was affected for a couple of hours.

The bodies were sent to Government Headquarters Hospital here for post-mortem.

The lorry driver Perumal has been arrested.
