Drop Port develepment project in Puducherry: BJP
Puducherry, Mar 16 (UNI) The Bharathiya Janata Party local unit today urged the administration to drop the Port development project here.
Addressing a press conference, party state president Visveswaran pointed out that there was a direction from the court to elicit the views of the public if anybody had objections to the project.
However, the government without following the direction had handed over 107 acres of land, two dredgers worth Rs 10 crore and godowns to the private player on February one, that too without any caution deposit, he said.
Stating that the construction of a small fishing harbour had caused havoc by way of sea erosion, Mr Visveswaran said if the deep sea port was constructed, not only Thengaithittu, but also Puducherry town would be badly hit.
An expert committee had given a non-feasibility report to the scheme, Mr Visveswaran claimed adding the BJP, while strongly condemning the violation of the guidelines in the project wanted it to be dropped permanently.
Demanding a white paper from the government on the backdoor appointment bypassing the employment exchange, the BJP leader said the party would organise a demonstration in front of the employment exchange by the end of this month.
