Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) A 10-member CBI team today headed for the spot where firing took place in Nandigram on Wednesday, resulting in 14 deaths.

''The CBI team is heading for the spot where the firing took place,'' Western Range IG Anup Gupta said.

Meanwhile, Nandigram continued to simmer as clashes between the CPI(M) and Jami Bachao Committee workers were still reported. A police convoy comprising three buses and 10 cars were stopped for over an hour at Heria, near Nandigram, by the local people.

Calcutta High Court yesterday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to send a team to inquire into the Nandigram police firing that killed 14 people and left over 40 injured.

A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar took up the case suo moto and issued a ruling, saying that no one could imagine such an incident in a democracy.

The court directed the CBI to submit its report within seven days.
