BJP seeks absolute majority for Kalyan-led government in UP
New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The BJP today voiced its serious concern about ''the sad state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh'' and decided to seek people's absolute majority for Kalyan Singh-led government to put the state ''back on the rails of progress and development.'' A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of BJP leaders from the state with party's central leadership where they had detailed discussion about facing the seven- phase elections scheduled for April-May.
Identifying ruling Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party as ''principal rivals'' in the state, senior BJP leader and UP incharge M Venkaiah Naidu told newspersons that the people had ''seen the working of these parties when they were in administration and compared it with that of the BJP rule under Kalyan Singh which ensured rule of law in 'mafia dominated' state.'' ''These two parties till recently were part of the UPA and were responsible for the misdeeds happening at the national level although Congress is not a political force in the state,'' he said.
Both the parties were indulging in ''competitive pseudo secularism,'' he said. As far as the BSP was concerned it had the declared agenda of ''punishing the upper castes but had accomodated number of candidates from these castes as election 'lolly pops'. Once the elections were over the party will revive its infamous slogan 'Tilak, Tarazu aur Talwar inko maro joote char',' he said.
Party stalwarts Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and BJP President Rajnath Singh will launch BJP's electoral campaign at three places on March 25 at Lucknow, Agra and Jhansi simultaneously on March 25 for the first phase. There will be workers regional meetings in major cities like Lucknow, Allahabad, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Bareli and Ghaziabad.
Stating that the BJP had emerged as the ''clear alternative in U P,'' he said the party wanted to give the message to the people to give clear mandate for bringing back Kalyan Singh, the ''lone alternative to free the state from corruption, casteism, communalistion and Muslim appeasement, criminalisation, corruption, castism and spiralling prices.'' Besides Mr Vajpayee and Mr Advani and BJP Chief Kesri Nath Tripathi senior party leaders like Murli Manohar Joshi, Lalji Tandon and Kalraj Mishra took part in today's meeting held at Mr Naidu's residence.
