Badal appoints another advisor in his office
Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) secretary Daljit Singh Cheema has been appointed Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, an official spokesman today stated.
Dr Cheema who will hold Cabinet rank, is the second Advisor to be appointed to the Chief Minister. Earlier Harcharan Bains was appointed Media Advisor, in the rank of minister of state.
The nature of work in the CMs office for Dr Cheema is expected to be decided later.
Dr Cheema was among the front runners for a Rajya Sabha berth, but SAD president and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal chose Mr Naresh Gujral, son of former Prime Minister I K Gujral. The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant following the death of senior Congress leader Ms Sukhbans Kaur Bhinder. Election to fill this seat is to be held on March 29.
