Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) In a move aimed at mitigating the hardship of the troops in remitting money to their families back home, the Army Postal Service (APS) in association with the Department of Posts, today launched the Field Postal Orders (FPOr).

The FPOr would serve as a more convenient and cheaper alternative of money transfer as compared to the money order or the bank draft. The instrument promises to be a 'saral, sasta and surakshit' (easy, economical and safe) mode of transferring money.

Releasing the FPOr at Chandimandir today, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command, stated this instrument would not only be a more convenient but also a more secure mode of transferring funds available to the troops, especially those posted in the field areas.

Mrs Manjula Prashar, Chief Post Master General (CPMG), Punjab and Chandigarh, who was present on the occasion informed that sending money through FPOr would be cheaper as the commission of FPOr ranges from 0.45 per cent to 1.5 per cent as against 5 per cent in case of money order. Moreover, it is easier to encash the FPOr in any post office in any part of country, she added.

Giving an overview of the various services being provided by the APS, Maj Gen Gurdeep Singh informed that besides providing the regular postal services, APS is also providing certain special services such as accepting passport application forms, providing UPSC forms and giving Postal Life Insurance service.
