Anonymous letter to SC judge: Mulayam refuses comment

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) Samajwadi Party supremo and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today refused to comment on the anonymous letter received by a Supreme Court judge over the disporprionate assets case against him and his family members.

'' I have full faith in the judiciary...I have to offer no comments,'' he said.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Yadav said it is up to the Supreme Court to decide what to do on the issue.

'' Rang me bhang kyun daal rahe ho? (why are you acting spoilsport'',) he quipped to a poser.

However, to a question on whether Congress was behind the conspiracy, the SP president said the party was conspiring against the SP government for the last three and a half years. ''They can go to any extent,'' he added.

SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav also refused to react on the happenings in the SC. ''I have not received the details of the eposide,'' he commented.

Supreme Court Judge A R Lakshmanan, who had headed the bench that ordered a CBI inquiry against Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members in the disproportionate assets case, today declined to hear the review petition after receiving an anonymous letter.

Justice Lakshmanan, who virtually broke down in the court as hearing began on the review petition, filed by Mr Yadav's son and MP Akhilesh Yadav, challenging the apex court order dated March 1, 2007, said he had received an ''anonymous letter this morning, the contents of which are heinous.'' ''In my career of 17 and a half years as a judge of various High Courts and five years in Supreme Court, I have never received such a letter. I, my wife and my family members are very much disturbed,'' he said, but declined to reveal the contents of the letter.
