Bhopal, Mar 15 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) Member Sunilam today staged an unique protest in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly by continuously speaking for two-and-a-half hours, sans the Speaker's permission, to press for taking up a call attention motion on a lady sub-inspector's murder allegedly involving an Indian Police Service officer.

Notwithstanding Speaker Ishwardas Rohani's ruling that Dr Sunilam's statement would not be placed on record, the SP legislator remained on his feet from Zero Hour till the Speaker consented to thrash out the issue by meeting the member in his chamber.

At one stage, when the Speaker sought to know what action should be taken against the member, Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi (Cong) suggested his eviction from the house. However, the Speaker did not summon the marshals.

However, the microphone near Dr Sunilam's seat was switched off keeping in view the inconvenience to other members. The Speaker allowed continuation of scheduled business, despite the uproar.

Mr Rohani, who was unwilling to hear anything from Dr Sunilam, relented after repeated requests by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra and Mr Ramlakhan Sharma (CPI-M) to hear the member's grievances.

Dr Sunilam took the stand that the Speaker had earlier assured to take up the call attention motion on the murder of Bhind's Sub-Inspector Chetna Sharma, daughter of a former Congress MP.

However, the Speaker denied it. Bhind district's then Superintendent of Police Rajababu Singh was removed after a case was registered against him in this regard.
