Ragging: eight students expelled

Bhopal, Mar 15 (UNI) The Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) has expelled eight second year students for an indefinite period for ragging more than ten students.

A first year student had lodged a complaint in this regard.

All the expelled students -- Vallabh Kalgi, Abhishek Karware, Ashutosh Choubey, Mandar Rodhi, Pranul Phooljale, Vidyan and Kumare, Amrit Marulekar and Shashwat Shahay -- hail from Maharashtra.

Police said it received information about some of the college students being ragged by their seniors at Dussehra ground last evening.

When police reached, the senior students tried to escape but were nabbed.

MANIT Dean (Academic) H K Khera said eight second year students had been expelled for an indefinite period. Besides, 13 first year students had been expelled from the hostel for going outside its premises without giving prior information.

He said no one had been appointed for carrying out an inquiry in this regard.
