Parihar encounter: Reward for cops

Bhopal, Mar 15 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government will appoint as sub-inspector -- on compassionate grounds -- the son of slain Inspector Veerendra Singh Bhadauria, while other police personnel involved in an encounter with the Jagjivan Parihar dacoit gang would be rewarded, Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh announced today.

Making a suo moto statement in the Assembly, Mr Singh said that seven bandits, including chieftain Parihar and his brother Param Singh, were eliminated in yesterday's encounter at a village in Morena district. Dacoit Ramlakhan Gadaria, who hailed from Rajasthan's Dholpur district, was also killed.

Six firearms and cartridges were seized from their possession.

Inspector Bhadauria, posted at Porsa as Town Inspector, was killed while five personnel -- including two inspectors -- were injured.

Mr Singh said that Jagjivan carried a total reward of Rs 7.25 lakh comprising Rs 2 lakh announced by the Madhya Pradesh government, Rs 5 lakh by Uttar Pradesh and Rs 25,000 by Rajasthan.

Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi and Dr Govind Singh (both Cong) lauded the Police Department's success and sought suitable rewards, including promotion, to the personnel.
