Minister charges UDF rule with corruption

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 (UNI) Lashing out at the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) government, Kerala Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran today alleged that corruption and irregularities to the tune of about Rs 1000 crore had taken place in the cooperative sector during the UDF rule.

Addressing mediapersons here, he alleged that it was found that about Rs 1,800 crore given as agriculture loans was used for non-agriculture purposes.

The state Cooperative Bank had also given away loans illegally to the tune of Rs 800 crore and irregularities were also found in other sectors, he said.

The Home Minister has been requested to initiate a vigilance inquiry into this, he said.

It was also found that the UDF-governed State Agriculture Development Bank had deposited Rs 390.12 crore illegally in private banks, Mr Sudhakaran said.

He alleged that irregularities were found in UDF-governed district Cooperative Banks in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Thrissur.

Similar irregularities were also found in Left Democratic Front (LDF)-governed cooperative banks, he added.
