Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) Amid criticism by partners, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee explained yesterday's police action in Nandigram at a Left Front meeting today as it failed to come out with a joint decision.

''No decision was taken at today's meeting. The Front partners will meet again on March 17,'' Left Front Committee Chairman Biman Basu said.

Veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu was present at the meeting.

Earlier, the Chief Minister met CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan at the CPI State Committee office and clarified the circumstances under which police opened fired in Nandigram.

In the Front meeting also, Mr Bhattacharjee defended the police action, but representatives of the CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP were vociferous against the Government's decision.

However, the partners agreed to unite to frustrate tomorrow's Opposition's sponsored Bangla bandh.
