Jamait demands re-election in the state
Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) The Jamait-E-Ulema-I-Hind today demanded that West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee dissolve the Left Front government and seek reelection owning moral responsibility for yesterday's Nandigram incident.
In a press conference here, Jamait chief Siddikullah Chowdhury said Mr Bhattacharjee, also holding the Home portfolio, could not shrug off his responsibility for the killing of 14 people.
The Chief Minister should resign from his post and dissolve the state government to take fresh mandate from the people, he said.
" We are appealing to President A P J Abdul Kalam, West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and the International Human Rights Organisation for their intervention into the matter, " the Jamait Chief urged.
The Jamait and Jano Adhikar Sangram Samity would march to Writers' Buildings and observe "Black Day" on March 19 in protest against the police firing at Nandigram, he said.
