Puducherry: VPPA to organise 24-hr bandh on Mar 15

Puducherry, Mar 14: The Federation of Village Panchayat Presidents Associations will organise a 24-hour bandh here tomorrow, to press the government for the devolution of powers to the elected local body representatives in the Union Territory.

Powers to the local body representatives were not devolved even after eight months of the civic elections here, which were held after a gap of 38 years.

The MDMK, DPI, CPI(ML) and Tamizhar Desiya Iyyakkam have extended their support to the bandh.

Meanwhile, police spruced up security arrangements to maintain law and order during the bandh.
