Plea to reject Mashelkar's report

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today urged heard the plea to to reject the report submitted by eminent scientist R S Mashelkar on patenting laws on the grounds that it had been copied from an international report favouring multi-national companies.

Raising the issue during the zero hour, Mr Hannan Mollah(CPI-M) said the report by on patent laws had raised a serious controversy as a section of the report had been copied from some international report favouring the multi-national companies. ''This constituted an act of plagiarism and cheating,'' he added.

Describing his recommendations as ''against the interests of India'', the CPI-M member called for rejecting his report as it had created an ''embarrassment for the country''.

Stating that the former Chairman of the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research had gone beyond the Terms of Reference, Mr Mollah demanded constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to look into the whole matter.
