Cong CEC meets to finalise candidates for UP elections
New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress, headed by party President Sonia Gandhi, met here tonight to finalise the names of candidates for the first phase of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The Committee is likely to approve the names of 60-odd candidates for the first phase beginning April 7 by late tonight, according to party sources.
The meeting is being attended by AICC General Secretary Incharge of Uttar Pradesh Ashok Gehlot, State party President Salman Khursheed, among others.
Meanwhile, party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said consultations were on for forging a poll alliance for the Assembly elections and the outcome of the talks will be known shortly.
