Stay action against Majhi officials: Digvijay
Bhopal, Mar 13 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today sought Governor Balram Jakhar's intervention to stay a move for terminating the services of employees belonging to the Majhi community that was earlier listed as a scheduled tribe (ST).
Calling upon the Governor to direct the government to issue clear directives on the issue, Mr Singh told reporters here that terminating those who obtained government jobs, on the basis of ST certificates issued to the community, was improper.
''Earlier, Majhi community members in Vindhya region enjoyed reservation benefits and in 1976 the community was scheduled. In 1998, during my chief ministership, the government stayed the move to terminate such employees following complaints. Subsequently, the High Court stayed the order issued during my tenure though the court earlier upheld it,'' he explained.
Mr Singh urged the Governor to impress upon the government to take steps to cancel the court order.
The Congress leader said if at all the employees were to be terminated, the government should remove Bharatiya Janata Party leader Moti Kashyap from the Cabinet as also from the Assembly as he enjoyed reservation benefits. Law should be applied to all equally, he felt, adding that Mr Kashyap belonged to Majhi community having Dheemar or Kahar surnames.
